Actress Kate O’ Mara (The Rani) Dies
It’s with great sadness, that we report the passing of Doctor Who actress; Kate O’ Mara. O’ Mara was aged 74.
O’ Mara played the strong and forth-right Time Lord villain – “The Rani”; in 2 serials of the series – in 1985 & 1987.
The Mark Of The Rani and Time And The Rani, saw O’Mara battle Colin Baker – and newly regenerated replacement; Sylvester McCoy.
“Oh, I know why you’re here. To destroy the Doctor. You’ve never had any other. It obsesses you, to the exclusion of all else! You’re unbalanced. No wonder the Doctor always outwits you….!” Rani to the Master
Rani (which means “Queen” in Hindu), was intended as a female replacement for’The Master’ character. Before The Master was brought back, to partner The Rani in Mark Of The Rani.
The Rani also had a brief appearance, in the 1993 Children In Need special Dimensions In Time.
