Richard Franklin, who played Classic Doctor Who UNIT Sgt. Mike Yates, has died. He was 87.
Franklin played Mike Yates right throughout most of the Third Doctor’s era, from Terror Of The Autons – 1971 upto Planet Of The Spiders – 1974.
Franklin left the show, at the point that the Third Doctor regenerated. He returned, for a small cameo appearance, as a ghostly apparition of Yates – in The Five Doctors – in 1983; the 20th anniversary special.
Outside of ODWho, Franklin acted in other dramas and soap operas, he was also an author and stood as a politician, with various UK political parties.
