The First Doctor episode; dreamed up by a group of students at Lancaster Central University was remade over 5 days; faithfully recreated – scene for scene – in February 2019.
The remake episode also begins with an interview of actor; Edward De Souza, who played Marc Cory – in the original Who episode.
It’s 54 years, since the original episode was broadcast on the BBC. So the remake, has been released to coincide with the 54th anniversary.
The original Hartnell episode – itself, shown in 1965 – is missing from the BBC archive and a visual copy has never been traced.
It serves as something of a one-episode prequel, to the later truncated epic – “The Dalek Masterplan”.
Neither the First Doctor (William Hartnell), or any of the companions feature. Instead, it picks up the story of a group of stranded astronauts – on an alien planet; attempting to outwit the Daleks.
New remake episode is here.
