Olddoctorwho is sad to report that actress Deborah Watling, has died aged 69; after a short battle with cancer.

Watling, played Second Doctor companion Victoria Waterfield, between – 1967 and 1968.

Watling joined the programme in 1967’s The Evil Of The Daleks, playing Victoria alongside Jack Watling (her real life father) who played Professor Travers, in two episodes.

During her time in the Tardis, character Victoria developed a close friendship with Jamie (Frazer Hines). The two were friends in real life, many years, after leaving the show.

Watling left the show, 1 year later in 1968’s Fury From The Deep. The character of Victoria had decided that she was tired of travelling and didn’t want to return to the Victorian era. Instead, deciding to stay in the 1960’s.
