Sadly, the Who catalogue is incomplete. Due to the Beeb’s horrendous 60’s money-saving practice of taping over the reels. This was long before, that they Doctor Who was considered heritage.
Thankfully, this practice was stopped – by the early 70’s but this left a huge gap, in the Hartnell and Troughton adventure catalogue (which is still not filled).
Last year, some old Troughton episodes were rediscovered on Beeb exported reels; found in a Nigerian television studio.
The Web Of Fear – featuring the Yeti’s and Enemy Of The World; were found mostly intact (Web Of Fear was missing episode 3) and have now been released on DVD.
Sadly, the remaining missing episodes, number quite a few, and we can only hope that they are one day recovered somehow. From either, a recording – or exported beeb reel.
Some have even been cobbled together, from recordings made by members of the public, who recorded episodes direct from the TV.
